Opening Ceremony - - World Games 2005

Duisburg, 14 July 2005

From NRZ On-line: " ... However, the Argentine star tenor José Cura earned the first real ovation. With the Duisburger Philhamonic as sympathetic accompanist, Cura touched the hearts of the audience with his classical delivery and contemporary sound.  After the triumphant entrance of athletes from nearly 100 countries, Cura returned to the stage to join Benny Martell and 14-year-old singer Jay-Ann in belting out the official World Games song."

Opera singer José Cura: "Yesterday I said to a journalist that we need much more good than bad news in the media. If you have experienced the positive energy at this opening ceremony and saw how focused the athletes are on their sporting aim, then you know the big difference to those people who have only senseless destruction in their minds. Perhaps we will have a lot more positive news in the papers in the coming ten days."

"I was already sweating before the athlete came into the stadium," the celebrated star tenor José Cura described his first impression of the opening ceremonies. With the World Games one can announce that there is also good news in the world. "Do we have a chance to take advantage of the next ten days during the World Games to put good news on the front page of the newspapers and the bad news behind?" Then the games would achieve an unbelievable goal, according to Cura.  Westdeutsche Allgemeine, 15 July 2005

"Star tenor Jose Cura was as enthusiastic as Benny Martel and14-year-old Jay-Ann. Not only did the specially composed World Games Hymn work outstandingly well, but also the John Lennon classic "Imagine" was interpreted so honestly as to give goosebumps."

"With the classical aria "Nessum dorma" from Puccinis Turandot,  the world-famous Argentine tenor won the hearts of the audience."  Westdeutsche Allgemeine
